Lionsgate and Saban's big-budget adaptation of Power Rangers earned a mighty (morphin') $3.6 million via Thursday previews. The Paramount/Viacom Inc. franchise starter went on to earn $25m on opening day and $65m over its opening weekend. Power Rangers is merely one big would-be blockbuster in a really crowded month, so it'll have to fend for itself. Still, if TMNT can thrive alongside Guardians of the Galaxy then Power Rangers can thrive alongside Beauty and the Beast. Power Rangers is written by John Gatins and directed by Dean Israelite from a story by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Michele Mulroney & Kieran Mulroney.
