Postmedia journalists won four awards at the National Newspaper Awards on Friday night with top honours for both journalist and project of the year. The journalist of the year is selected by a panel of three past NNA winners from among the category winners each year. The National Post and the Calgary Herald shared the project of the year honour for the work of a former Postmedia reporter and Michelle Lang Fellow, Zane Schwartz. “These awards show the breadth and quality of the journalism being practised in Postmedia newsrooms,” said Lucinda Chodan, the senior vice-president of editorial for Postmedia. The NNAs were first put on by the Toronto Press Club in 1949, with the awards program operating under its current administrative structure since 1989, a press release noted.
