Pressure is mounting to get a deal as the union’s strike mandate expires at midnight Thursday. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) issued a new release saying the planned 10 a.m. news conference was postponed until further notice, promising more information would be out shortly. The union representing 50,000 postal workers abruptly cancelled a news conference scheduled for Thursday morning, where it was expected to announce it was serving strike notice. The union would be unlikely to shut down the entire postal service. Last week, the union asked the company to agree to extend the strike mandate, good for only 60 days, arguing it would be time consuming and cost-prohibitive to hold another strike vote in time.
