The two men who died in a crash near Lake Tekapo on Monday have been named by police. They were 46-year-old Stephen John Hayden, from Australia, and 72-year-old Nigel Stuart Freeman, from Twizel. The two-car collision happened on State Highway 8, between Hayman Rd and Tekapo Canal Rd, shortly after 5.15pm, on Monday, police said.
