An official who works at the Traffic Department in Port St Johns has been arrested for corruption after he attempted to bribe his way out of an investigation. The suspect, 36, was being investigated after some irregularities in his department were found and documents confiscated. According to Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, police spokesperson, the suspect immediately followed up with a call to arrange that the inspector, who was investigating the matter, meet with him at one of the petrol stations in King William's Town. "After delivering the money, a sum of R10 000 in the vehicle of the inspector, the police arrived and immediately arrested him for corruption," Kinana said. The suspect was then taken into police custody, pending his appearance in the King William's Town Magistrate's Court on Monday, May 30 on charges related to corruption.
