There were fewer positive results among those with blood type O - the most common - and more in peers with A, B and AB. The trends remained after the researchers took into account ethnicity which affects blood group distributions. The potential role of blood type in predicting infection has emerged as an important scientific question. Advice is still to wash your hands and follow the guidelines issued by authorities - whatever your blood type. Almost half of the UK population (48%) has blood group O.
