The Prime Minister will play a two-day waiting game from London to see how in the mood for compromise EU leaders are when they gather for a Brussels summit tomorrow afternoon. The PM had previously spoken of the significance of October 15 for the trade talks. The Continent's leaders are expected to discuss the deadlocked trade talks over dinner on Thursday night. Brussels' critics accuse EU leaders of thinking such a tactic could force Britain to accept European suggestions for a compromise. Britain formally left the EU on January 31 but departure triggered the immediate start of an 11-month transition, allowing negotiators time to strike a free trade deal.
