A total 143 were recorded to have died with the virus on Tuesday, when 17,234 new cases were reported. The toll includes 108 deaths in England, 15 in Scotland, 10 in Wales, and four in Northern Ireland. The rolling seven-day hospital admissions average was around 650 patients a day earlier this week, meaning the figure as rising. Hospital figures show 516 coronavirus patients remain on ventilators, used for the most critical cases. Today Northern Ireland leaders have declared a four-week "circuit breaker" on Friday in a bid to curb rising infection rates.
