Pay tea pickers their dues, MPs tells companies

Multinational tea companies in Konoin, Bomet county, have been asked to obey a High Court ruling and pay striking tea workers a 30 per cent pay hike to stop ongoing protests. Konoin MP Sammy Koech said the tea companies must implement the 30 per cent pay rise immediately and stop intimidating workers. A wave of protests has hit multinational tea companies in Kericho and Bomet counties. “These tea companies are not above the law at all. They have kept holding the workers at ransom for no reason, yet the court ruled that the workers should get a pay rise,” he said.
