Party is silent on any reply to data watchdog questions

Sinn Féin has declined to say whether it has given answers to questions from the Data Protection Commissioner over its internal database. The party ignored queries from the Irish Independent yesterday after the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar called on party president Mary Lou McDonald to answer questions about its secret database. The Data Protection Commissioner sent the party a list of questions after this newspaper reported that Abú, Sinn Féin's password-protected website, gave party members access to a database that included the names, addresses and predicted voting intentions of millions of voters. The website directing members to the database was shut down as a “precautionary security measure” after the party received questions from the commissioner. Abú also showed how Sinn Féin believed people previously voted in elections.
