They are still part of our community, and so, where possible, they should be placed in their community. That support was reiterated at last week's meeting where the wider Dunedin community told us that these kids are part of their community and that we all have a part to play in helping them thrive. And as the Dunedin community at the meeting demonstrated, turning things around for kids begins with changing attitudes. We appreciated the background information about historical problems people in the community had experienced when the home was running in previous years. I am so heartened by the community support and with that feel confident that this community will soon see the many benefits that young people experience when they get the right supports.
