PM calls for respect for elderly, stronger family tiesSimple gestures such as bowing, paying respect and embracing loved ones can strengthen family bonds, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday as he opened a National Elderly Day event. Mr Anutin, presiding over the National Elderly Day and Family Day celebration at Impact Forum in Muang Thong Thani, said families form the foundation of society and help shape values, beliefs and cultural identity. Strong families lead to a strong nation, while weakened ties make national progress more difficult, he said. He highlighted the vital role of older family members in passing on knowledge, traditions and warmth to younger generations. However, widening generational gaps in modern society can weaken these bonds, even when respect remains, he noted.
