On Thursday, the former prime minister was supposed to resume delivering the statement defending herself before a special judge’s court in Dhaka. Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman ordered her arrest and wrapped up hearing the defendant’s statement and scheduled the next proceedings for the trial. The court set Dec 5, 6 and 7 to hear the arguments by the prosecution and the defence. Khaleda and five others stand accused of embezzling funds that came from abroad for the Trust in the charges levelled by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The trial kicked off in March 2014, around five years after the investigator submitted the charges.
