Many had thus expected this high-level meeting to be the dawn of a somewhat new beginning in Sino-American relations. The high-level meeting was off to a distinctly acerbic start. Nevertheless, Malaysia remained largely open to various activities by and with North Korea, including those within Malaysia. There were the famous apparently officially run North Korean restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. The very much exaggerated and rather incredible language used by North Korea in announcing the formal break only amused many in Malaysia and beyond.
