A 16-year-old housewife has been strangled to death by allegedly her husband in Shibganj upazila of Bogra, just four months after their marriage. The victim is Sharmin Akter, daughter of Saidul Islam, who was married to a cloth trader named Raju Mia, 40, son of Shah Alam from the area. The victim’s relatives alleged that Raju killed her as she protested his extramarital affair with Lipi Begum, who is the wife of their landlord. However, Lipi was detained for interrogation while the body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Shibganj police station’s Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Kamruzzaman Mia said they started conducted raids to arrest Raju.
