Engineers have alleged there are serious problems with the structural design of a new building in central Christchurch. Alleged defects in a seven-level building in central Christchurch were spotted by a recently qualified engineer on a night out. The young engineer was working for the Christchurch branch of international engineering firm Aurecon in late 2017. Cho was unable to satisfy Aurecon's worries and the council sought another opinion from engineering firm Holmes Consulting. The council then sought a final ruling on the building from MBIE, which asked global engineering firm Beca for advice.
