It was thought he was heading to the beach via Hammond Trial to Mad River area. The body was retrieved by the Coast Guard helicopter at 9.20am on Tuesday, June 29, the Humboldt Country Sheriff's Office in California said in a statement. Abbey, 63, visiting the USA from New Zealand, was reported missing the previous evening by his brother. He left with "only the clothes on his back", and had no friends or other relatives in the area.
