The organiser of a festival who planned to fly New Year’s Eve revellers from Auckland to Hawaii to ring in 2022 twice has been forced to cancel the event due to New Zealand’s Covid-19 travel restrictions. New Year’s Twice was set to make its debut this year, with festival-goers paying at least US$4770 (NZ$6770) for what was billed as the “ultimate bucket list experience”. But there was just one problem – New Zealand’s borders are closed to almost all travellers for the foreseeable future. “Unfortunately, it seems very unlikely that travel without self isolation will be allowed in Aotearoa New Zealand by the end of the year,” he said in the email. “Spain is on the border with Portugal, and Portugal is one hour behind.
