Ex-Royal Marines have designed a training battleground operated by a tablet-like gadget which allows thousands of virtual walls and rooms to be created within minutes. The “smart” facility will provide 16 Air Assault Brigade, including elite paratroopers, with a variety of scenarios to hone their close-quarter fighting skills. The new “shoot-house” at Colchester, Essex, can be rapidly reconfigured so instructors can place recruits in multiple danger settings without them ever leaving base. It is controlled by a “SimWall” panel system installed by 4GD, a British firm of ex-Royal Marines and UK airborne forces which says it is “redefining the future of immersive close combat training”. “As ex-Royal Marines we are directly applying our own experience of the battlefield to help improve the quality of training for UK forces.”
