NZ stock-still: Welfare, child abuse, housing and maternity care show no gains


ANALYSIS: Welfare dependence is on the uptick, few inroads have been made to reduce incidents of child abuse, and linking pregnant women with maternity care has remained stubbornly static. ROSA WOODS/STUFF The abolition of targets was a "real public policy tragedy", says National Party leader Simon Bridges. It's not clear that ever happened, but the Government did this week release its child poverty targets - aiming to halve child poverty. In January 2018, the new Labour Government announced their abolition at around the same time it also got rid of National Health Targets. Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni said the welfare system was not providing the right support for people in need.
