The National Elections Commission (NEC) is threatening drastic action against political parties, agents and independent candidates found engaging in pre-campaign activities in any part of the country. In a release issued late Wednesday, NEC called on political parties, agents and independent hopefuls engaged in pre-campaign activities to stop, otherwise the Commission will not hesitate to use its regulatory authority to punish them (violators) in keeping with the law. According to the release, the warning is in line with the new elections guidelines relating to all political parties, and independent candidates. The release noted that the warning comes in the wake of political parties and independent candidates recklessly indulging in pre-campaign activities despite several warnings by the Commission.
