Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, former Kenya Sugar Board director Eng Mohammed Mukhwana and Mumias Sugar Cane Growers' Cooperative Union chairman Alloys Mandu said inadequate sugarcane might cause the collapse of the company. Leaders from Kakamega county have expressed fears over the imminent collapse of Mumias Sugar Company. Speaking separately, the leaders blamed the company management of underrating the importance of cane growers, who supply sugarcane for crushing to the factory.
