The Waitangi Mountain Bike Park was being built in the Bay of Islands, a community project to develop 30 forest trails over more than 70km when it is complete. The park is expected to attract about 15,000 new visitors to the Bay of Islands region after three years in operation. The Martins' Paihia Mountain Bikes opened in 2017 and has been based at the park since December. It now has a fleet of 65 mountain bikes, including electric bikes, and offers rentals, shuttle services for people who bike the trails and want to be taken back to the top, and guiding. The mountain bike scene in Northland was growing, he said.
