More exotic mosquito larvae foundMinistry for Primary Industries MPI have successfully eradicated exotic mosquitoes in the pastA breeding population of an exotic species of mosquito may have been established in north Auckland. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) discovered larvae of Culex sitiens mosquitos near Kaipara Harbour last week. The mosquito is known to transmit Ross River virus, as well as Japanese encephalitis in a laboratory setting. She said there was no risk of the mosquito spreading Ross River virus as the disease is not present in New Zealand.
