It also provides a distraction from the canker on the corner - a decrepit, yellow weatherboard home at number eight Webb Street. The owner lives overseas, Webb Street residents say, though it's thought the home was gifted to a daughter who has since moved to Auckland. Recently, a group of young people lit a fire in the backyard which spread to the side of the Webb Street house. There are more than 130 state houses planted on the westside of the Waikato River.
