An organisation of Buddhist monks in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) has distributed food among the starving locals of Sajek villages in Rangamati. “Parbatya Buddha Bhikkhu Sangha” gave rice, oil, potato, salt, and lentil to 52 affected families of Sajek Union’s number 8 area on Sunday. Low jhum (slash and burn method) production and hike in rice prices forced about 2,000 families in 20 remote Sajek villages to starve for the last several months. So far, around 28 tonnes of foodgrains have been distributed among the people of remote Sajek villages. Also Read: Food crisis continues in Sajek villagesSajek’s starving people get more relief
