This has caused anxiety about the council’s independence and its May 23 decision to sack Njoroge on grounds of insubordination. Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has ordered the University of Nairobi council to reinstate suspended deputy vice chancellor (administration and finance) Bernard Njoroge. The wrangles continued to November, when the council suspended him, pending a six-month investigation concluded on May 23. Njoroge and vice chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi have been at loggerheads since April 2015, when Njoroge was appointed DVC administration and finance. The investigations resulted in a majority of four members against two resolving to sack Njoroge.
