Certainly, Mass Effect: Andromeda does not mark the first time this has happened, but it is one of the most prominent examples I can think of. Even if they play New Game+ or start a different character, the first impression ship has sailed. Playing Mass Effect at launch and Mass Effect three months from now might result in a better-looking Ryder, a different romance, and a better story with less characters residing in the Uncanny Valley. I got a review copy of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and I had to play it as it was. But right now, the smart play for most games is to wait.
