March passenger numbers at airport plunges 91pc


Hong Kong International Airport's passenger numbers plunged 91 percent year-on-year last month to 576,000 while its number of flights fell 67 percent to 12,115 as the coronavirus pandemic continued to seriously impact air trafficCargo throughput dropped 12.4 percent to 378,000 tonnes compared to the same month last year, the Airport Authority Hong Kong said today. For the first quarter, the airport handled 8.2 million passengers and 63,345 flight movements, representing year-on-year decreases of 56.5 percent and 40.1 percent, respectively. Cargo throughput fell 10.9 percent to 988,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year. On a 12-month rolling basis, passenger volume and flight movements respectively dropped 18.9 percent and 12 percent to 60.9 million and 377,420. Cargo throughput decreased by 7.3 percent to 4.7 million tonnes.
