A team of vets couldn't believe their eyes when a six-legged cow was brought into surgery earlier this week. But although associate vet Jacqueline Taylor described the surgery to remove the unwanted legs as one of the most perplexing cases of her career, the operation went off without a hitch. Before the surgery, Ms Taylor and her team had only seen photos of the animal and were not quite sure what to expect when the calf arrived. So we had to amputate through bone as we didn't want to go anywhere near the spine,' Dr Taylor said. Research on the subject is scarce due the extremely low number of cases, but Dr Taylor said surgery to correct the problem is usually met with success.
