The Maple Leafs confirmed Wednesday they’ve signed free agent defenceman Joseph Duszak to a two-year future entry level contract. The 21-year-old is expected to join the Marlies this week on an AHL tryout. He appeared in 37 games with the Mercyhurst University Lakers (Erie, Pa.) this season and recorded 47 points (16 goals and 31 assists), putting him third among NCAA skaters and atop all college defencemen. In 101 career games with the Lakers, he has 99 points and 98 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Duszak is from Franklin Square, N.Y., not far from the ancestral home of the Islanders in Uniondale.
