India’s Manipur Assembly Speaker has claimed “illegal immigrants from Bangladesh” are greater threat than Rohingya to the country’s national security. “Bangladeshi migrants have changed the demography in several districts of Manipur. He pointed out that Manipur shares a 367 km porous international border with Myanmar, but it faces a bigger threat of illegal migration from Bangladesh. To check illegal immigration, the Manipur State Government cleared a land reform bill which is pending with the centre. Around 430,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh till Friday escaping the violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
