Senior Constable Stefan Witehira, of Palmerston, said when the man initially fled from police he threw two stolen cellphones into a drain. The man was described as 190cm tall, European and skinny, and was last seen wearing dark-coloured trousers and a dark T-shirt. Police officers and dogs from Dunedin and Oamaru were initially called in to look for the man on Sunday. Police are still looking for a man who fled from them on Sunday afternoon after a car that was stolen from Dunedin was found at a Palmerston address. They had since been recovered.
