"It's fair thing to say a lot of places have seen half a month's worth of rainfall in one day." Metservice meteorologist Tom Adams said some areas of the country have had half their monthly rainfall in 16 hours. Two weeks worth of rain in less than a day has flooded the upper North Island and Great Barrier Island. Those towns have had 45mm and 77mm respectively, totalling around a third to half of their monthly average. Yesterday, 91.5mm was recorded, almost half the monthly record of 200mm.
