Malaysian NGOs appeal to UN, ask for reconsideration of the Rohingya repatriation process

KUALA LUMPUR: A coalition of 70 non-governmental organisations (NGO) has appealed to the United Nations to reconsider the repatriation process of the Rohingya. The NGOs said that UN should play a significant role to monitor the process closely to avoid any possibility of forced return and the disastrous after-effect of doing so. “UN is the highest mandated international body that can enforce the international law and thus we have come here to submit our requests. The coalition also sent a memorandum to the Bangladesh government at its embassy here to halt the repatriation plans of the Rohingya refugees until Myanmar guarantees their safety. Also present during the submission were Merhrom president Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani and Rohingya activist Tengku Emma Zuriana Tengku Azmi.
