Shortly after the premiere of his Broadway musical-turned film In The Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda issued a Twitter apology for the lack of Afro-Latino representation in the movie. The title of In The Heights refers to Washington Heights, a prominently Latino neighbourhood in New York where the Hamilton star grew up and still lives. Critics accused the film of whitewashing the area, as the main cast features only one dark-skinned character — Corey Hawkins, who portrays love-interest Benny. "In trying to paint a mosaic of this community, we fell short," Miranda said of their casting decisions. That's disappointing that Heights Movie was a bust and so whitewashed...Too bad they had a opportunity...Well I Know now what I won't be watching, I as a tanned colored skin/darked haired Mexican Latina Hispanic.
