Like many children at the time, Chanie was forcibly removed from his family and sent to Indian Residential School during a dark chapter of Canadian history. For 50 years Pearl Achneepineskum has been searching for a way to tell the story of the brother her family lost to the Indian Residential School system. All Canadians must face the true history of this country, especially the Indian Residential School experience, if we are ever to achieve true reconciliation. Through two intense performances Gord has restored the dignity and innocence of a little boy who only wanted to go home. We know that achieving reconciliation will not be easy, but he has inspired us to move forward on this path together.
