Speaking during the enrolment of 155 new lawyers to the Bar, following the passage of the bill on Friday, March 27, 2026, the Chief Justice said that the reforms are designed to expand access to legal education while maintaining professional standards. “For some time now, Ghana has struggled with a difficult balance: how to expand access to legal education while maintaining professional standards,” he said. “We are now resolving that tension,” he explained, adding that once assented to by the President, the bill will allow accredited universities to provide both academic and professional legal training, a role traditionally reserved for the Ghana School of Law.
