There was an interesting contrast when it came down to survival for the Leafs in Game 5 of their playoff series with Boston. The Leafs turned to 37-year-old Ron Hainsey and 31-year-old Roman Polak on defence, and hard-working youngsters Zach Hyman and Connor Brown up front. A large factor in the Leafs’ ice time was the number of penalties — six — the team took. Hainsey, Polak, Brown and Hyman are the Leafs’ prime penalty killers. When the Leafs were down two men, the Leafs defenceman pulled off an almost unheard of 3:02 shift.
