Fans at the Toronto International Film Festival have given the nod to director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land in the annual People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award at TIFF is always anticipated because it has proven a good barometer of which films will do well at the Oscars. The King’s Speech, Slumdog Millionaire and 12 Years a Slave are among the past People’s Choice winners that have gone on to win best picture at the Oscars. Jackie by Pablo Larrain won the Platform award, a relatively new prize that champions director’s cinema from around the world. Some 400 films were screened during TIFF, which wrapped up today with a closing banquet.
