Kinky Boots, The Chasse-Galerie win big at the sixth annual Toronto Theatre Critics Awards

It’s been a great year for theatre in Toronto, with a panel of the city’s best theatre critics having selected which performances were the crème de la crème for the sixth annual Toronto Theatre Critics Awards. The big winner was Mirvish’s production of Kinky Boots, which took home three awards: Best Production of a Musical, Best Actor for Alan Mingo Jr. and Best Supporting Actress for AJ Bridel. Kinky Boots was followed by Red One Theatre Collective at Storefront Theatre’s production of The Chasse-Galerie, which picked up two TTCAs: Best New Musical, and Best Director of a Musical for Tyrone Savage. Kliffer Entertainment and Golden Ages Productions put the show(s) on at Factory Theatre for three weeks in January and February. And last, but certainly not least, Best Production of a Play was awarded to Butcher’s Block Collective and Why Not Theatre’s production of Butcher, Nicolas Billon’s harrowing, thought-provoking thriller, which ran last fall at the Theatre Centre in downtown Toronto.
