The government has dropped its bid to give its own members majority control over the special committee that will be tasked with coming up with recommendations on alternative voting methods. That vote could happen as soon as tonight, which means the special committee could be up and running before the Commons chamber shuts down for the summer. That means the government will have to garner the support of at least one other party to win a vote at the committee table.
