The Kenya Revenue Authority will in the next five days deactivate all PIN accounts that are yet to be registered on its iTax system. This will see million of Kenyans blocked from accessing critical public services even as the tax man count on digitalization to catch up with tax cheats. Even so, the tax man has the harrowing tax to increase public sensitization, considering the high rate of wrong PIN applications. This is just one of perhaps millions of wrong KRA Pin applications across the country that may be adding to a list of accounts to be deactivated by the taxman on August 31. Our efforts to ascertain the exact number of accounts to be deactivated and its plan to curb wrong tax application were not fruitful by the time of going to press.
