The Kenya Revenue Authority has said it will facilitate faster and easy cargo clearance at the port of Mombasa for companies that have been tax compliant. The programme contains provision of expediting the cargo movement and clearance and release of goods on transit for compliant traders or companies. Speaking during a meeting with regional traders in Mombasa, KRA customs manager John Bisonga said they will speed up accreditation of companies that have been compliant. KRA on Monday said the ‘Trade Facilitation Programme’ will be extended to all firms in East Africa that use the port of Mombasa for importing goods. All companies must apply for the tax compliance accreditation if they wish to be part of the programme, which was first rolled out in 2007, he said.
