KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Aneeta Lingam and Aina Sorfina Mohamad Aminudin bowed out of the women’s figure skating competition after only managing fifth and ninth placings, respectively, at the Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium (MYNISS), Empire City at Damansara Perdana today. Aneeta collected 58.44 points in her free skating programme for a combined total of 82.68 points, behind Thailand’s Natalie Pailin Sangkagalo, in fourth. Eighteen-year-old Aina, on the other hand, fell in her short programme routine on the first day of competition, and maintained her ninth placing after managing 51.93 points, for a total of 69.30 points. In her debut appearance, Singapore’s Shuran Yu picked up the gold medal when she awed the crowd with her flawless free skating routine to record 82.24 points, with a total of 135.52 points. Shuran’s compatriot Chloe Xuanling Ing finished second when she scored 128.61 points, while the Philippines’ Alisson Krystle Perticheto finished in third at 113.40 points.
