MACC to probe Gatco estate land deal

JEMPOL: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will set up a task force to investigate the 30-year-old Gatco estate land deal. Chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said MACC would conduct a study on the land deal and investigate if there was a case. The Gatco estate was previously owned by Syarikat Gula Negeri Sembilan, which then leased 2,000ha to the Negri Sembilan State Development Corp for 99 years. Negeri Sembilan State Development Corp then leased the land for to The Great Allonioners Trading Corporation Bhd (Gatco) in 1977 for 66 years. The villagers under the land scheme paid between RM4,000 and RM7,000 to Gatco to own their respective plots of land.
