Jury deliberations are underway in Nanaimo at the first-degree murder trial of Kevin Addison. The judge spent Tuesday morning defining the charges for the jury and going over evidence presented at the trial. But the defence argued the 49-year-old should be convicted of manslaughter — not murder — because he never planned to kill anyone during the attack. Mill manager Fred McEchearn was killed when the shotgun went off accidentally while attempting to wrestle it away from Addison, argued the defence. The Crown didn't dispute the defence's argument that Addison was depressed, but argued he wasn't nearly as depressed as the defence would have the jury believe.
