A thief operating a backhoe smashed through the wall of a north Edmonton business early Tuesday, clawing out an ATM in a destructive but smooth single scoop. Suh has owned the small grocery store on the corner of 121 Avenue and 127 Street since 2014, selling everything from jelly beans to dish soap to cigarettes. All that was left of the ATM was a roll of receipt paper that Suh found laying in the street. Presumably, she said, it was someone familiar with operating a backhoe and who knew where the ATM was sitting inside the store. For Suh, though this theft is certainly unique, it’s just the latest challenge for her small business.
