Artist Robert Bateman’s Haliburton-area cottage has sold for nearly $300,000 over the asking price. The 2,100-square-foot, custom-built log home on 6.3 acres was listed for $520,000. After attracting eight written offers, it sold for $800,000. Prior to the sale, Bateman, 86, said he hoped to negotiate visits with the property’s new owner once it changed hands. The artist and naturalist, known for his paintings of wildlife, has been cottaging in the Haliburton area since 1939.
