The Supreme Court has imposed a stay on the bail order issued by the High Court for KM Nasir Uddin, one of the accused in the murder of Daily Samakal’s Shahjadpur correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul. The Chamber Judge of the Supreme Court’s appellate division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique issued an eight-week stay order on the six-month ad-interim bail that the High Court granted on April 13 following a government plea. Nasir was an associate of Mayor Shimul and an activist of local Awami League. Shimul was shot on February 2 during a clash between a Chhatra League faction and Shahjadpur Mayor Halimul Haque Miru’s supporters. The journalist died the following day while being taken to Dhaka for medical treatment.
